Storied In History
The Buchanan Mansion is a historic property formerly known as "Ingleside," and is located on North Bailey Road in Thorndale, Pennsylvania. It served as a summer residence for James Buchanan, the 15th President of the United States. Buchanan purchased the property in the 1820s and named it "Ingleside." It served as his residence during various stages of his career, including his time as a lawyer in Pennsylvania and his tenure in public office. Buchanan's ownership of Ingleside predates his presidency; he lived there before and after his time in the White House.
After Buchanan's death in 1868, Ingleside passed through different owners and underwent several renovations. In the 20th century, efforts were made to preserve the historical significance of the property, recognizing its association with Buchanan. Today, Ingleside stands as a historic site, offering visitors a glimpse into the life and times of James Buchanan, one of the key figures in American political history.
In the mid-20th century, the Zinn family acquired the property and transformed it into a recreational complex. They established a diner, bowling alley, and the Ingleside Golf Club on the grounds. The mansion itself was converted into the Ingleside Manor Country Club, serving as a clubhouse and event venue.
The property, encompassing over 12,000 square feet and situated on 3.3 acres, retains its historical charm with features like six fireplaces and high ceilings. It stands as a testament to the adaptive reuse of historic properties, blending cultural heritage with contemporary community use.

Today, The Buchanan Mansion overlooks the Ingleside Golf Club and has been renovated as an upstairs upscale, fine-dining establishment managed by renown Dragonfly Catering, and downstairs, a full-sized bar, game room, and dining rooms, affectionally called The Lounge.
